Biography
I began training in December of 2004. I was looking for something new, as I had already tried multiple different sports, with nothing sticking. After starting here at Powell ATA, my parents knew immediately that I was hooked and found my thing. The physical benefits were quickly apparent, in addition to learning how to defend myself. Overall, the discipline and consistency were major contributors to my newfound confidence, and helped me navigate through both middle and high school troubles with ease.
I joined the Leadership Program early in my training, after deciding that I wanted to pursue higher learning. I was a Purple belt at 13 years old when I began assisting in classes. At that point, I knew that I wanted to teach alongside my then instructor, Master Pekalla. After reaping the benefits of learning martial arts and having strong mentors, I wanted to carry that legacy and help others find the same thing that I had. What I love most about teaching is the moment when a student finally acquires a difficult skill, and seeing the sense of pride and accomplishment on their face. I also love the “full-circle” moment that occurs when a student, whom you’ve taught for years, begins teaching alongside you.
Outside of martial arts, I am husband to my wonderful wife Jen, and father to my four children, Riley, Mackenzie, Odin, and Eden. I also have two dogs, Lucy and Scooby. My family is the main driving force in continuing what I love to do! My hobbies include gaming in all varieties and enjoying the outdoors.
